Ganderbal, July 15, 2019..The School of Education in association with Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), Central University of Kashmir organized a one-day seminar on “Draft National Education Policy 2019” (Round 3) at Green Campus of the varsity here on Monday.
In-charge Vice-Chancellor and Director, Research and Development, Prof. Abdul Gani, former director, School Education, Government of J&K, Mr. Muhammad Rafi, Director, IQAC, Prof. G M Bhat, Registrar, CUK, Prof. Fayaz Ahmad Nika, Controller of Examinations, Prof. Parveen Pandit, Dean and Head, School of Education, Dr. Syed Zahoor Ahmad Geelani, Prof. N.A. Nadeem and Prof. Nighat Basu, School of Education, principals of various degree colleges, faculty members of the university, research scholars and students were also present on the occasion.
In his keynote address, former Director, School Education, Mr. Muhammad Rafi, elaborated the historical development of School Education sector in J&K. He detailed out the milestones of National Education system in India and shed light on the pitfalls of proposed NEP-2019 with special reference to curricular aspects. He said the Draft Policy has given mandate to the States to frame the curriculum in accordance with the unique cultural ethos.
In charge Vice-Chancellor, Director, R&D, Prof. Abdul Gani in his presidential address deliberated that in the vision of NEP -2019, the real inclusive education is missing. He observed the limitations of implementing a uniform and common curriculum across the country. Prof. Abdul Gani said that research ambience, finance, and funding need to be enhanced in the proposed NEP-2019. He concluded that, NEP-2019 is a comprehensive and well-researched policy document and for its implementation a Programme of Action needs to be launched.
Registrar, CUK, Prof. Fayaz Ahmad Nika, in his address said the success of NEP-2019 depends on its implementation in letter and spirit. He raised relevant apprehensions about Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) and Regulatory Mechanisms in Education. He said that while implementing NEP-2019, diversity of India needs to be taken into consideration.
Prof. N.A. Nadeem, in his address suggested that a four-month induction programme needs to be conducted for newly appointed teachers of Higher Education institutions (HEIs). He also suggested a new formula for promotion of teachers at HEIs. He observed that Teacher Education has a crucial role in the quality enhancement of entire education system. He also suggested strengthening of DIETs and SCERTs.
In his welcome address, Dean and Head, Dr. Syed Zahoor Ahmad Geelani, said the School of Education has already organised two seminars on the draft NEP-2019 and the compiled recommendations would be sent to the concerned quarters for implementation.
Assistant Professor, Dr. Gawher Ahmed Bhat conducted the programme proceedings while as Dr. Ismail Thamarasseri proposed the vote of thanks.
