BANDIPORA:(MK)Forest Protection Force (FPF) on Tuesday evening seized a large quantity of smuggled timber in Hajin area of Bandipora district but preferred not to intimate the Police in a possible attempt to hush up the matter, eventually letting all smugglers give a deliberate slip. Sources told that the forest Protection Force had allegedly entered into a secret deal with the smugglers which ensured their escape; however, it was only when this Correspondent shot video of the vehicle full of timber logs that the forest department authorties and Police came to know about the seizure.
Deputy Director Forest Protection force Aijaz Ahmad admitteded to MK that, the vehicle bearing registration number JK15- 4672 loaded with illegal timber was seized near Hajin area of Bandipora district by a team of Forest Protection Force, but ended up in giving “misleading Information”. “We have seized 19.46 Square Feet Timber from the vehicle and handed over to Forest department. We have registired the FIR, and the further Investigation taken up .”He told MK, adding that the timber had been smuggled from Kehnusa area of Kamraj Division.
The statement however, proved “misleading” , When the concerned DFO said that they haven’t received the ceased Consignment and no FIR was lodged in the case as of now.
A Police official who had just arrived in the FPF office also confirmed to MK that they had no knowledge about it and there was No FIR registered yet in this regard.” This has been ceased by the Protection Force. We are yet to receive the consignment. Will investigate the matter, Said DFO Bandipora.
The deputy Director even told MORNING KASHMIR reporter that the timber along with the vehicle had been sent to Forest Department, but that also turned out to be misleading as this reporter located the vehicle in the compound while coming out of the office.
Sources said that a pickup TataMobile vehicle with Kail 16 Scants of illegal timber was being smuggled out from Hajin village when FPF intercepted them. Later, FPF party seized the Automobile but the smugglers managed to escape. Local Sources added that the raid was conducted on wednsday in their presence but surprisingly the accused were released and no action was taken against them. Locals alleged that the FPF team has entered into a deal with the accused and in lieu of bribe they were let off. Locals added that if driver could be traced means smugglers can be traced automatically.
Pertinently, Bandipora division is witnessing ruthless deforestation as timber mafias are active in cutting prized Deodar and Kail trees in the forests.
Locals told MK that heavy damage is being caused by the smugglers to the green treasure in forest range(MK)
