The snowfall on 3rd of this month caused a heavy damage to apple orchards in the entire crntral kashmir’s ganderbal district.
Around 04-06 inch of snow was recorded in kangan and adjoining hilly villages.
Locals said snowfall ahead of pruning and leaf fall had caused huge damages in their orchards.
Abdul Ahad, an orchardist owner said snow damaged the entire apple crop in his 5 kanal hired orchid.
“Snow slashed away branches from trunks of the apple trees while some trees were even uprooted,” he said.
Orchadists of wakura and adjoining villaged like Batwina, Kurhama ,zazna Ahan, waskura here estimate the apple crop loss to be around 40 percent.
Shabir Ahmed Horticulture officer ganderbal told morning kashmir that snow in entire district caused damage to 3400 hectre land of orchids.
The damage to the apple crop has caused deep sorrow among affected orchardists who demanded that the damages be assessed and sought compensation for the losses.
