At least three residential houses, an under construction power transmission tower, scores of trees and electric poles were damaged by heavy snowfall in different areas of north Kashmir’s Baramulla and Bandipora district.
Locals Chuntpatrie Babarashi told Morning Kashmir on phone that a house of Bashir Ahmad Wani son of Mohmmad Azdullaha Wani resident of Chuntpatrie Babarashi was damaged due to heavy snowfall. However no loss of injury has been reported.
The affected family claimed that despite informed the admin about the incident, non of official had visited the family.
In hilly village Galibal Hajibal, several residential hutments (Kacha houses) locally known as kothas) came under a mounds of snow in on Thursday damaging them badly and two persons sustained minor injuries.
A local Mohammad Amin told Morning Kashmir on phone that with heavy snowfall and 6-7 feet snow in the area, the affected area is inaccessible as of now.
However, efforts are on to clear a parallel route Baramulla-Hajibal in order to reach the area.The official sources said that snow cutters have been deployed on Hajibal route to access the affected village, Galibal.
“There are no reports of any causality but snow have struck some Khotas causing them damage,” an official said.
In Bandipora, a under construction transmission tower of BBTL collapsed in north Kashmir’s Bandipora village on Thursday morning due to heavy snowfall.
Sources said that an under construction transmission tower of BBTL collapsed at Ajas village this morning due to snowfall, however, there was no report of any injury was in the incident.
The significant weight on the roof and supporting structure which resulted in the collapse of an under-construction transmission tower of BBTL, an official said.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Bandipora Shahid Chowdary in a tweet said that Chief Engineer concerned S&O started enquiring into the incident.
Heavy snowfall affected normal life and several areas remained cut off from the district headquarters and Tehsils besides power supply was badly affected as poles uprooted with electric supply lines were also damaged.
‘Power supply was not resorted in Baramulla till late evening,” locals said.
