2020 Attack on Karwan-e-Islamia Cheif: Police Register FIR Against Five, Investigation Ongoing

Srinagar, Dec 11: Police have registered an FIR against five individuals, including Manzoor Ahmad Bhat of Kupwara, in connection with the April 2020 assassination attempt on noted Islamic scholar and head of Karwan-e-Islamia, Dr. Ghulam Rasool Hami. The case has been filed at Parimpora Police Station under FIR No. 0114, invoking relevant sections of the IPC, 1860.

Sources said the investigation has gained momentum, with multiple angles of the case being examined thoroughly. “Several leads are being pursued, and further action cannot be ruled out,source said.

The 2020 attack was followed by a coordinated social media smear campaign targeting Dr. Hami, during which a series of unsubstantiated allegations and fabricated narratives were circulated. These claims were later found to be baseless, and the campaign was widely viewed as an attempt to undermine his social, religious, and academic stature.
A spokesperson of Karwan-e-Islamia confirmed the registration of the FIR and said the organisation is fully cooperating with the investigating agencies.“In the coming days, we will share detailed information regarding the incident, the progress of the investigation, and the subsequent legal proceedings,” he added.
