Students engage in fitness games, self-defense training, Fit India seminar to honor hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand
Pampore, August 29: In a vibrant tribute to National Sports Day, Boys Middle School Meej Pampore, in collaboration with the Youth Services and Sports Zone Pampore, organized a day-long sports extravaganza at the school campus.
The event, held to commemorate the birth anniversary of hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand, highlighted the importance of fitness and physical activity in student development.
A large number of students, both boys and girls, actively participated in the celebrations. The program was supervised by Manzoor Ahmad Najar, Zonal Physical Education Officer (ZPEO) Pampore, along with trainer Mohammad Ashraf Bhat, officials told Morning Kashmir.
The festivities began with an inaugural ceremony at BMS Meej, attended by Head of Institution (HOI) Riyaz Ahmad Bhat and faculty members. Students enthusiastically took part in various recreational activities, including innovative “minion games” designed to encourage teamwork and fitness in a playful way.
As part of the nationwide Fit India Movement, a seminar was also held to spread awareness about sports and general fitness. In addition, a special self-defense training session was conducted exclusively for girl students.
Speaking on the occasion, trainer Mohammad Ashraf Bhat stressed the importance of sports beyond just physical health. “Playing sports is an important alternative for preventing lifestyle diseases and managing psychological stress. School sports play a vital role in the physical, mental, and social development of students. We want to encourage students to participate in games and sports for their holistic growth in today’s busy world,” he said.
