Civilian Vehicle Accident Near Karnah: One Dead, Three Injured

Tangdhar, June 21: A tragic road accident occurred this afternoon when a civilian vehicle, a Honda Jazz (Registration No. CH 01 BS 3356), veered off the road and plunged into a valley approximately 1 kilometre from Karnah Kitchen on the Tangdhar route.

The mishap reportedly occurred between 2:00 PM and 2:30 PM. The vehicle was carrying four individuals — three men and one woman. Upon receiving the alert, troops from the Indian Army, with the support of local civilians and Kupwara Police, swiftly responded and launched a rescue operation. The injured passengers were evacuated to the nearest medical aid post at Baraf around 3:00 PM.

One of the passengers, Mr. Rafiq Ahmed, was found critically injured and unresponsive. Despite best efforts by the attending Medical Officer, including the administration of CPR, he could not be revived and is presumed to have died in transit. His mortal remains are being transported to Tangdhar, accompanied by the Tehsildar Karnah.

Both received initial first aid at Baraf and were later evacuated to Kupwara in an Army ambulance, accompanied by an Army Medical Officer, at 4:10 PM.

Timely intervention by the Indian Army, Kupwara Police, and local residents was instrumental in rescuing the injured. Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident. Further details are awaited.
