Tangmarg 11 February 2026: The Chief Postmaster General (CPMG), Jammu & Kashmir Circle, Shri D.S.V.R Murthy (IPoS), on Tuesday interacted with Branch Postmasters (BPMs) at Tangmarg and reiterated the department’s guiding philosophy of “Dak Sewa, Jan Sewa”.
The CPMG was accompanied by the Senior Superintendent of Post Offices, Shri Adam Mohiuddin (IPoS), and Sub-Divisional Head Shri Mohd. Shabid Zargar. Around 30 Branch Postmasters from different areas participated in the interactive session.
During the meeting, Shri Murthy highlighted the pivotal role of BPMs as the first point of contact between citizens and India Post, particularly in rural and remote regions. He emphasised the need to ensure timely, transparent and courteous delivery of postal services, stating that post offices remain among the most accessible public institutions for people in far-flung areas.
Addressing the young BPMs, the CPMG encouraged them to discharge their duties with sincerity, professionalism and a strong sense of responsibility towards the communities they serve. He also appreciated the contribution of female BPMs, describing them as examples of women empowerment and acknowledging their positive role in strengthening trust in public service delivery at the grassroots level.
The CPMG reviewed the functioning of each BPM individually, assessed performance parameters and discussed area-specific operational challenges. He stressed the need to promote postal banking schemes such as Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana, Post Office Savings Account, Recurring Deposit and Monthly Income Scheme, particularly to inculcate savings habits among women and rural households.
He further advised BPMs to actively popularise Postal Life Insurance (PLI) and Rural Postal Life Insurance (RPLI), highlighting their affordable premiums and attractive bonus features, making them secure and beneficial options for the public.
Emphasising the role of India Post in supporting local entrepreneurship, Shri Murthy urged BPMs to actively facilitate logistics and parcel services for local sellers and MSMEs. He noted that the extensive postal network can significantly contribute to strengthening the local economy by providing reliable last-mile connectivity.
