Urges caution to avoid mistakes

SRINAGAR, DEC 27: In the aftermath of a terrorist ambush in Poonch that left four brave soldiers dead, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh visited Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, expressing unwavering confidence in the Indian Army’s ability to eliminate terrorism from the region.

While praising the bravery of the troops, Singh urged them to exercise caution and avoid any actions that could harm citizens.

Accompanied by Army Chief General Manoj Pande and Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Singh’s day-long visit aimed to assess the security situation, especially in the twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch, which have witnessed an increase in terror attacks and infiltration attempts from across the Line of Control (LoC) this year.

Addressing the troops at a military garrison in Rajouri, Singh stated, “I believe in your bravery and steadfastness. Terrorism should be finished from Jammu and Kashmir, and you need to move forward with this commitment. I have full faith that you will achieve victory.”

Singh’s statement comes amid public outrage following the discovery of three civilians found dead in Poonch district on December 22.

Expressing concern about the recent incidents, Singh emphasized the need for heightened alertness among the troops. He assured them of the government’s support, stating, “The government stands with you, and your welfare is our top priority.”

In an apparent reference to the killing of the three civilians, Singh cautioned the troops against “mistakes that hurt the citizens of the country.”

He highlighted the responsibility of the Indian Army not only in protecting the nation but also in winning the hearts of the citizens.

“The Indian Army is not considered an ordinary force in the world. The people accept that the Army is much more powerful and well-equipped than ever. You are the guardians of the nation, but alongside protecting the country, you need to win the hearts of the citizens. It is a big responsibility on your shoulders,” the minister said.

Singh paid tribute to the fallen soldiers and offered prayers for the speedy recovery of the injured personnel.

He reassured the troops that necessary steps would be taken in response to the incident and emphasized the government’s commitment to providing additional resources for security and intelligence gathering.

“The sacrifice of the soldiers is unparalleled and cannot be compensated with money. The void can never be fulfilled,” Singh concluded, reiterating the government’s determination to stand by the armed forces in their mission to protect the nation.
