Dhai Aakhar’ trailer makes strong impact: Mrinal Kulkarni shines in story of self-discovery

Mumbai, Nov 10: The much-anticipated Hindi film “Dhai Aakhar,” featuring veteran actress Mrinal Kulkarni, has launched its trailer and music at a star-studded event in Mumbai, setting the stage for its theatrical release on November 22, 2024. The film, a literary adaptation directed by Praveen Arora, promises to deliver a compelling narrative about women’s empowerment and self-discovery.
Based on acclaimed writer Amreek Singh Deep’s story “Teerthatan Ke Baad,” which first appeared in the Hindi literary magazine Hans, the film has been adapted for the screen by renowned writer Asghar Wajahat. Set in the 1980s, “Dhai Aakhar” explores themes of domestic violence and women’s identity through the story of Harshita, played by Kulkarni, alongside notable actors Harish Khanna and Rohit Kokate.
The film’s musical score features two standout tracks: “Dhoop Ki Aur,” penned by Irshad Kamil, and a fresh rendition of Amir Khusro’s classic “Ae Ri Sakhi,” performed by celebrated singer Kavita Seth. At the launch event, Seth’s live performance of “Ae Ri Sakhi” captivated the audience.

Director Praveen Arora spoke about the film’s challenging production, highlighting Kulkarni’s dedication during shoots in 46°C heat across Haridwar and Rishikesh. The film’s central theme is encapsulated in the powerful dialogue: “Where there is bondage, there is no love; where there is love, there is no bondage.”
J.P. Agarwal, the film’s presenter, emphasized that “Dhai Aakhar” stands apart from current trends in action and crime films, focusing instead on refined storytelling. The film has already garnered attention in the festival circuit, securing a spot in the prestigious Panorama section at IFFI Goa.
Produced collaboratively by Kabir Communications, Aakriti Productions, and S.K. Jain Jamai, “Dhai Aakhar” is scheduled for a pan-India release on November 22, 2024. According to Kulkarni, who brings her own literary background to the role, the film sensitively portrays women’s experiences and emotions in society.
