DPAP announces Azad as party candidate from Anantnag-Rajouri seat

Srinagar, Apr 2: In a significant development, the Democratic Azad Progressive Party (DPAP), a newly formed political podium in Jammu & Kashmir, has announced the party Chairman, Ghulam Nabi Azad as its candidate from Anantnag-Rajouri Lok Sabha seat.
A senior party leader, Taj Mohi-ud-din while speaking to the media persons, said that the hectic deliberations have taken place in Rajouri, Poonch, Anantnag, Srinagar and other places in the last couple of days.

“After the hectic deliberations, the core committee has come up with a decision that the party chief, Ghulam Nabi Azad will be the candidate of DPAD from Anantnag-Rajouri seat,” he said.
The decision was made just 24 hours after the National Conference (NC) announced Mian Altaf Ahmad Larvi as their candidate for the particular seat.
With today’s announcement of Azad’s candidature, the Lok Sabha constituency, which spreads across the Pir Panjal range and includes Rajouri and Poonch areas after delimitation, is all set to witness a direct contest between NC’s Mian Altaf Ahmad DPAP’s Azad, in case the other parties will only support the like minded parties.
However, it would be interesting to see whether the PDP is going to extend its support to NC or will field their own candidate from the constituency. In case PDP fields the candidate, it will be a triangular contest in the constituency.
The constituency is all set to go for the polls on May 7 in the third phase. The notification will be issued on April 12 and April 19 will be the last date for filing nominations. The last date for withdrawal of candidature is April 22.
