Srinagar, June 6: Monsoon, considered as the season of rains in Jammu and Kashmir, has commenced on a dry note in the Union Territory as 73 percent deficient rainfall has been recorded so far in this season.
Amidst the forecast of light wet spell for the next few days, Jammu and Kashmir recorded a large deficient rainfall in the first week of June.
The seasonal data prepared by the Meteorological department states that only a few stations including Bandipora, Ganderbal, Kupwara and Reasi have recorded normal rainfall in this season so far.
Srinagar, also recorded a large deficient rainfall during the season so far with the data revealing that 87 percent deficient rainfall has been recorded in the first six days of the season.
Anantnag, Kulgam and Shopian have recorded a large deficient rainfall of 84 per cent, 95 percent and 96 percent respectively while Budgam in central Kashmir has recorded a large deficient rainfall of 94 percent so far.
Doda district in Jammu also falls in the list of areas where large deficient rainfall has been recorded with 97 percent, the data reveals.
Ramban district has recorded a large deficient rainfall of 83 percent, it reveals, adding that Udhampur has recorded a deficient rainfall of 33 percent.
Pertinently, the light rains have occurred in Srinagar and other districts of Jammu and Kashmir since Tuesday evening, which brought the day temperature down by some degrees at most places across the Union Territory.
The weatherman has however predicted more rains till June 08, saying that the light rains would possibly occur in the plains of Jammu and Kashmir, especially in the Valley while the higher reaches of Jammu would continue to record a maximum temperature around 40 degree Celsius.
