Gulmarg’s Snow-White Spirit Unshaken by Terror Shadow

Srinagar, Oct 25: Despite Thursday’s terror attack that killed two Army porters and two soldiers just six kilometres away, tourists continued to throng the scenic hill resort of Gulmarg on Friday, even as security forces conducted massive search operations in the area.
The attack occurred in Bota Pathri area of Baramulla district when terrorists ambushed an Army vehicle heading to Nagin post in Affarwat range, also leaving one porter and a soldier injured.

“I have come here with my family and feel completely safe,” said Rajesh Kumar, a visitor from Tripura. “The police and administration are doing their job, and the warmth of Kashmiri people makes us feel secure.” Kumar mentioned that despite his mother’s concerns after the attack, he assured her everything was fine.
Deepak Sharma, a taxi driver from Jammu with 23 years of experience in Kashmir, expressed confidence in the region’s safety. “There is ample security here. Business should continue, and tourists are welcome. It’s good for everyone,” he said.
While the Gondola cable car service faced a temporary shutdown as a precautionary measure, it was soon restored. However, local businesses express some concern about short-term impact. “Though tourists are still enjoying the scenery, some have cancelled their plans, which is worrying,” said a local vendor.
Security forces have intensified their operations, deploying helicopter surveillance around the attack site, with counter-insurgency operations continuing along the Line of Control (LoC).
The attack comes days after an October 20 terror incident in Ganderbal district where a local doctor and six workers at an infrastructure project campsite lost their lives.
