55 kanal 8 marla land transferred
SRINAGAR, JAN 17: In a significant development, the Union Territory administration has identified 55 Kanal 8 Marla of land for the establishment of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Jammu campus in Srinagar.
The decision was made during the administrative council meeting held last month under the chairmanship of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha.
The government of India established IIM Jammu in Jammu and Kashmir in 2016, and the institute inaugurated its Off-Campus at Srinagar on January 24, 2020. Now, with the identification of the substantial land parcel, a full-fledged campus is set to be established in Srinagar.
The Revenue Department has issued an order granting sanction for the transfer of state land measuring 55 Kanal 8 Marla under Survey No.1072/1009, situated in estate Pantha Chowk, Tehsil Pantha Chowk, District Srinagar.
This transfer is in favour of the Ministry of Education, Government of India, through the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Jammu. The transfer is on a free-of-cost basis and is in accordance with Rule 310 of the General Financial Rules, 2017.
The order specifies certain conditions for the establishment of the IIM campus in Srinagar. The land is to be used exclusively for the purpose for which the transfer has been sanctioned. Additionally, all necessary permissions for construction must be obtained from the Competent Authority before the land is put to use.
The user institute, IIM Jammu, is required to adhere to various legal provisions related to Revenue, Forest, J&K Water Resources (Regulation and Management) Act, 2010, Housing & Urban Development Department, and others. The institute is also obligated to comply with any directions from the High Court of J&K or any other competent court regarding the usage of the transferred land. The diversion of land for any other purpose without prior approval is strictly prohibited, and any litigation must be contested by the institute.
The possession of the land is to be taken by the indenting institute within 30 days from the transfer order, and the land must be put to use within three years. Failure to do so will result in the land reverting to the government. The government retains the right to retrieve any unutilized portion of the land for other public purposes. This move marks a significant step towards the expansion of educational infrastructure in the region, enhancing opportunities for students and contributing to the overall development of the Union Territory.
