Srinagar, Oct 20 : On the pattern of what was done in Srinagar the other day, a similar outreach program on combating likely misuse of vulnerable Non-Profit Organizations (NPOs) from terror financing was today held in Distt Police Lines Jammu. The program was organized by CID Wing of J&K Police jointly with Ministry of Home Affairs, Govt of India for all NPOs of Jammu Province.
More than 110 functionaries of various NPOs based in Jammu Province, (including those of far flung areas of Rajouri,Poonch,Doda Kishtwar and Ramban) participated in the program which was aimed at sensitising such functionaries against likely attempts by anti-national elements to use such NPOs for terror financing. A special team of officers and domain experts from MHA, GOI is already camping in J&K to complete this special exercise.
During his interaction with the participants, Shri Omprakash Singh, IRS, JDD MHA said that while lakhs of NPOs are engaged in commendable job in different fields across the length and breadth of the country, however, few of them knowingly or unknowingly have been found to be involved in terror financing which not only brings bad name to their just cause but also acts as a security hazzard.
Shri Nitish Kumar, IPS, IGP CID J&K said that it is heartening to see NPOs in large numbers, both in Kashmir and Jammu Provinces, having actively participated in the awareness program. It is pertinent to mention here that while such programmes have been organized in the past as well by J&K Govt, however, it is for the first time that they are being held jointly with MHA, GOI.
Shri R R Swain, IPS, Special DG CID J&K said that such programmes shall be held in future as well being part of our multi-dimensional strategy to financially suffocate various terrorist organizations operating in J&K.
