J&K Wushu Team Shines at 24th Sub-Junior National Wushu Championship, Punjab

Srinagar, December 8: The Jammu and Kashmir Wushu team brought laurels to the Union Territory by winning 16 medals, including 3 Gold, 2 Silver, and 11 Bronze, at the 24th Sub-Junior National Wushu Championship held at Tarn Taran, Punjab, from December 1 to 6, 2024.

In the Sanda category, Geenakshi clinched a Gold medal, while in the Taolu event, Arzath Wangoo and Mohd Arman Malik bagged Gold medals.

Congratulating the athletes, Minister for Youth Services and Sports, J&K, Sh. Satish Sharma stated, “The outstanding performance of our young Wushu players demonstrates their hard work and the commitment of the administration to developing sports in J&K. Our goal is to empower youth through sports and ensure they have the resources and opportunities needed to succeed at the highest levels.”

Secretary, Youth Services and Sports, J&K, Sh. Sarmad Hafeez, IAS also praised the athletes for their remarkable achievements. “These medals reflect the dedication of our players and the significant progress J&K has made in nurturing sports talent. The department remains committed to creating more opportunities and providing top-notch facilities for our young athletes,” he said.

Ms. Nuzhat Gul, Secretary J&K Sports Council, also commended the team for their outstanding achievement. She said, “Our athletes have consistently showcased their talent on national platforms, and their achievements are a testament to the efforts being made to promote sports in J&K. The Sports Council will continue to extend its full support to nurture the dreams of budding sportspersons.”

Dronacharya Awardee and Chief Wushu Coach of India, Sh. Kuldeep Handoo, expressed his pride in the team’s performance and thanked the J&K Sports Council for their steadfast support. “The recent procurement of world-class Wushu equipment has significantly enhanced our athletes’ preparedness and confidence, enabling them to excel at prestigious events like this,” he said.
