JAMMU, DEC 03: In a bold move to rectify power theft and unauthorized electricity consumption, the Jammu Power Distribution Corporation Limited (JPDCL) has initiated an aggressive drive against illegal power connections in the Jammu Division.
Illegal power connections in some areas in the Jammu division have been a pervasive problem, causing substantial revenue losses for JPDCL and hampering the equitable distribution of electricity.
The drive as per the officials involves a multi-pronged approach. “Teams comprising JPDCL officials, technical experts, and law enforcement personnel are conducting extensive surveys and inspections to identify locations with unauthorized power connections,” they said.
“Once an illegal connection is identified, immediate steps are taken to disconnect the unauthorized power supply. This proactive measure aims to curb further power theft and maintain the integrity of the power distribution system”.
As per the officials, JPDCL is collaborating closely with local authorities and law enforcement agencies to ensure a coordinated effort.
This partnership is vital for addressing legal aspects and ensuring a smooth execution of the drive.
JPDCL has issued stern warnings regarding legal consequences for those found guilty of power theft or having unauthorized connections.
Offenders are liable to face penalties, fines, and potential criminal charges, emphasizing the gravity of the issue.
Recognizing the importance of community involvement, JPDCL has initiated a public awareness campaign alongside the drive. Through pamphlets, community meetings, and social media, the corporation is educating residents about the hazards of illegal power connections and urging them to report any suspicious activities.
A top JPDC official said that this drive is a critical step towards ensuring a fair and sustainable power distribution system in the Jammu Division.
“By targeting illegal connections, we aim to enhance the quality of services for law-abiding consumers and fortify the financial health of the power utility,” he said.
He added, “We understand the importance of community participation in this endeavour. We encourage residents to support our teams and report any instances of power theft. Together, we can build a more accountable and efficient power distribution network.”
Early responses from the local community have been largely positive, with residents expressing their support for JPDCL’s initiative. Many believe that the crackdown on illegal power connections will not only bring about a more equitable distribution of electricity but also foster a sense of responsibility among consumers.
As the drive gains momentum, JPDCL remains resolute in its commitment to creating a transparent and accountable power distribution system in the Jammu Division. The success of this initiative is anticipated to have far-reaching benefits, contributing to the overall efficiency and sustainability of the region’s power supply.
