Kashmir set to witness mega I-Day celebrations

Srinagar, Aug 7: The Kashmir valley is gearing up for grand Independence Day celebrations on August 15.
The government has announced that no passes will be required for the public to attend events throughout the valley, making the celebrations more accessible to all.

An official said that all government buildings, including schools, colleges, universities, Urban Local Bodies (ULBs), panchayats, blocks, tehsils, and patwar khanas, will be adorned with lights and will hoist the national flag.
“Independence Day will be celebrated in all schools,” the official said. “CEOs, principals, and headmasters have been instructed to ensure the national flag is hoisted at their schools.”
Additionally, various departments have been tasked with inaugurating projects completed over the past year and laying foundation stones for significant new projects until Independence Day. The Housing and Urban Development Department (HUDD) and the Department of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj have been instructed to ensure the participation of public representatives from ULBs, DDCs, BDCs, and panchayats.
“This year’s celebrations promise to be inclusive and vibrant, reflecting the spirit of unity and patriotism across the Kashmir valley,” the official said.
Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, V.K. Bidhuri, has extended an open invitation to the people of the Kashmir valley to join the August 15 celebrations at Bakshi Stadium in Srinagar.
“I extend my invitation to everyone to attend the August 15 function at Bakshi Stadium Srinagar this year,” Bidhuri announced recently.
“Like January 26 this year, I again invite people to come and join the celebration of August 15. I hope you will respond and join the function.”
Bidhuri assured that there would be no restrictions on public movement on Independence Day. A valid ID card will be sufficient for entry into the stadium. He also confirmed that internet and other services would function normally on the day, alleviating concerns about potential disruptions.
