5-year term of MCs expire in November 2023
Srinagar, July 28: Chief Electoral Officer Jammu and Kashmir, Pandurang Pole has ordered a Special Summary Revision of electoral rolls as the 5-year term of elected members of Municipal Corporations in J&K is coming to an end in November 2023.
The last general elections to the Municipal Corporations were held in September-October 2018 and the term of these bodies shall expire in November 2023.
A notification issued in this regard reads as “whereas superintendence, direction and control of the preparation of electoral rolls, delimitation of wards, reservation and allotment of seats by rotation for, and the conduct of all elections to the Corporations are vested in the Chief Electoral officer under Section 9(1) of the Jammu and Kashmir Municipal Corporation Act, 2000; Whereas, the last general elections to the Municipal Corporations were held in September-October 2018 and the term of these bodies shall expire in November 2023.”
“Whereas, in terms of Rule 12 of the J&K, Municipal Corporation (Election) Rules, 2003, the Electoral Rolls have to be revised in the prescribed manner before the conduct of each General Election to the Corporations or for any ward or for a bye-election to fill a casual vacancy in such ward; Whereas, it has been decided to revise/update the Municipal Electoral Rolls.”
“Now therefore, by this notice, the general public, as well as the political parties, are hereby informed toer to undertake the Revision of Electoral concerningnce to 01-07-2023 as the qualifying date, in respect of the Municipal Corporations in the Union Territory as mentioned above, the schedule for inviting claims and objections regarding addition, deletion, correction and transposition, both manually as well as electronically, is as: date for publication of Draft Electoral Rolls 01-08-2023 (Tuesday), Period for filing of claims and objections 01-08-2023 (Tuesday) to 11-08-2023 (Friday), Special Camp at the Polling Stations 06-08-2023 (Sunday) 10-08-2023 (Thursday), Disposal of claims and objections By 16-08-2023 (Wednesday), Updation of Electoral Rolls 21-08-2023 (Monday), Final publication of Electoral Rolls 25-08-2023 (Friday) Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) concerned shall publish the draft Municipal Corporation Electoral Rolls on 1st August 2023 with a notice in Foby with statutory Rules.” “The applicants desirous of filling claims/objections may do so before the ERO/AERO manually or by logging on to http://ceojk.nic.in/ filing electronically.”
