Srinagar, 19-Feb;Sonamarg, adorned with a fresh blanket of snow, has transformed into a hub of winter sports enthusiasts as the National Snowshoe Championship unfolds amidst breathtaking scenery. Participants from all corners of the country have converged in this picturesque town to showcase their skills and endurance in various categories.
The championship, set against the backdrop of pristine snow-covered terrain, has captured the imagination of both participants and spectators alike. Competitors, equipped with snowshoes, are navigating through the challenging course with determination and agility, making the most of the ideal conditions provided by the recent snowfall.
The Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal Mr Shyambir was the cheif guest on the occasion. CEO of the Sonamarg Development Authority (SDA), Farooq Ahmed Baba, expressed his delight at the growing popularity of the championship, emphasizing its role in promoting winter sports in the region. Approximately 60 local athletes, alongside 70 representatives from other states spanning 13 to 17 Indian states and union territories of our County, have infused the championship with an atmosphere of excitement and camaraderie. Farooq Ahmed Baba, CEO of the SDA, underscored Sonmarg’s pivotal role in shaping the landscape of winter sports, highlighting the collaborative efforts of various organizations such as the Sonmarg Development Authority, the Hoteliers Association Sonamarg, and the J&K SnowShoe Association. As the competition progresses against the backdrop of Sonmarg’s snow-covered terrain, spectators are treated to a spectacle of skill and athleticism.
