Srinagar June 24: In a recent political development, Nizamuddin Bhat, former MLA from Bandipora, has parted ways with the Jammu and Kashmir People’s Conference (PC).
In his statement, Bhat mentioned that despite holding the significant position of chairman of the party’s Parliamentary Board, he was neither consulted on the selection of the candidate for the Baramulla Parliament seat nor invited to a key meeting convened by the PC President.
Bhat’s decision comes in the wake of the recently concluded Parliament elections, which many view as a transformative event.Political observers interpret the election results as indicative of a larger shift. A political analyst commented that the elections signaled a change, rendering many long-standing leaders in North Kashmir irrelevant. These leaders, once influential in low voter turnout scenarios, now appear to have lost their ground connect, marking a significant transition in the region’s political landscape.
“The low voter turnout elections, where these leaders once thrived, are no longer the norm. Especially in Bandipora, where, under the stewardship of Nizamuddin Bhat, PC’s performance was unexpectedly dismal, finishing at a distant third. PC’s vote count in Bandipora remained unchanged from previous elections when Bhat was not part of the party, suggesting his influence failed to boost the party’s standing in his constituency.”Bhat’s electoral performance in Bandipora not only raises doubts about his effectiveness in securing votes but also poses a much larger question about his political future in the evolving political landscape.
