Only 15 % work left, progressing rapidly
Srinagar, Oct 17: With the government inching closer to achieving the target of providing potable tap water connections across Jammu and Kashmir, almost 82 per cent households across the northern districts of Kashmir are presently enabling the facility while the authorities have stated that only 15 per cent work is left.
The revelation of figures comes at a time when several areas across Srinagar and its adjacent areas have been grappling with a severe water crisis, pushing the consumers to the wall.
They said that under the ‘Har Ghar Nal Se Jal’ slogan, more than 85 per cent of the households have been provided potable tap water connections so far.
However, they informed that the work on the remaining 15 per cent of the project is progressing rapidly, with the goal of providing every household with a water connection at home, as envisioned under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM).
Pertinently, Jal Jeevan Mission is envisioned to provide safe and adequate drinking water through individual household tap connections by 2024 to all households in rural India.
The programme will also implement source sustainability measures as mandatory elements, such as recharge and reuse through grey water management, water conservation, rain water harvesting.
The Jal Jeevan Mission is based on a community approach to water and will include extensive Information, Education and communication as a key component of the mission.
