Srinagar, Oct 16: The newly sworn-in chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah has seemingly preferred to avoid the ‘culture of red carpet’ for him as well as his cabinet ministers as he took the first step to end the sufferings of people on the roads due to the VIP movement.
Kashmir has seen an unlike situation when it comes to the VIP movement along the roads in Srinagar and elsewhere as the commuters are being stopped to ensure smooth passage to the government dignitaries.
The decision to ensure no green corridor during his movement was announced by him through a social media post wherein he asked his cabinet colleagues to follow the suit.
“I have spoken to the DG @JmuKmrPolice that there is to be no “green corridor” or traffic stoppage when I move anywhere by road. I have instructed him to minimise public inconvenience & the use of sirens is to be minimal. The use of any stick waving or aggressive gestures is to be totally avoided. I’m asking my cabinet colleagues to follow the same example. In everything our conduct must be people friendly. We are here to serve the people & not to inconvenience them,” Omar Abdullah said in a post on X.
Earlier in a day, Omar along with the Deputy chief minister MLA Nowshera Surinder Kumar Choudhary and four other cabinet ministers including MLA Damhal Hanjipora Sakina Itoo, MLA Mendhar Javaid Rana, MLA Rafiabad Javaid Ahmad Dar and MLA Chamb Satish Sharma took oath as the ministers of the new J&K government.
Jammu and Kashmir witnessed an elected government after the gap of nearly six years as the previous PDP-BJP coalition government ended in 2018.
The assembly elections to elect the new government were held in Jammu and Kashmir after a gap of ten years.
