NC to take part in INDIA Bloc meeting today
Srinagar, Mar 30: National Conference Vice-President Omar Abdullah on Saturday said that it is the party’s high command who will decide whether he will contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections and from which constituency.”Rumors are usual during election time. It is the party who will take a call whether I will contest polls or not, and from which Parliamentary segment?” Abdullah stated.
The former Chief Minister’s remarks come amid speculation about his potential candidacy in the general elections, with various party leaders and supporters weighing in on the matter.
National Conference (NC) on Saturday announced its participation in INDIA bloc function at Ram Leela Ground in New Delhi tomorrow (Sunday) and that the party will announce its candidates as per the mood.
NC Vice President Omar Abdullah while speaking to the media persons said that party president Dr Farooq Abdullah will be attending a function slated to be held tomorrow in New Delhi.
The statement comes at a time when the allies in Jammu & Kashmir have not agreed to sign a pact before the Lok Sabha polls and are mulling to contest against each other on all the three parliamentary seats in Kashmir division.
While replying to a query, Omar said that to contest in the polls is not his personal decision, but the party has to take a call in this regard. “The party will be deciding my candidature in the polls and the constituency as well. It is not my personal decision. I can’t comment in this regard,” he said.
However, Omar stated that since only Sajad Gani Lone has been announced as candidate from Kashmir seats, the NC will announce its candidates as per the mood. “I have not heard any name other than Sajad Lone from the three seats of Kashmir division. You (media) are after the NC as if everybody is waiting for us. We will announce our candidates as per our mood,” Omar said.
Pertinently, the Lok Sabha polls in Jammu and Kashmir will be conducted in five out seven-phased elections announced by Election Commission of India from April 19.
