Jammu, November 13, 2025: PM Shri Government Girls Middle School Jindrah, Zone Dansal, organised an educational and vocational visit to the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Jammu on 12th November 2025. The visit aimed to provide students with firsthand exposure to advanced scientific laboratories, state-of-the-art research facilities, and innovative academic environments that inspire learning beyond classrooms. The initiative was aligned with the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which emphasizes experiential, skill-based, and holistic education for young learners.
As part of the visit, students from Classes 6th, 7th, and 8th were warmly received at IIT Jammu by the Outreach Department in collaboration with the Kritash Club. The day-long program combined academic exploration, awareness activities, and career guidance sessions designed to broaden the students’ understanding of science, technology, and social awareness.
The programme began with a welcome interaction led by faculty and research scholars from various departments. Students were taken on guided tours of the Chemistry Laboratory, Physics Laboratory, and Materials Engineering Division, where they observed demonstrations of scientific experiments and innovative tools used in research. Faculty members and scholars — including Ms. Madhura from the Department of Physics, Mr. Aditya Pratap Singh from the Department of Materials Engineering, Mr. Pankaj Kumar Meena, and Mr. Prateek Singh — enthusiastically interacted with the visiting students. They simplified complex concepts into relatable examples, sparking curiosity and inspiring many to consider careers in science, technology, and innovation.
A key highlight of the visit was a special awareness programme titled “Shakti”, focused on Menstrual Health and Hygiene. The session was conducted by Dr. Karunika Sharma, Institute Medical Officer (IMO) at IIT Jammu. Addressing young girl students aged 14–18, the session sought to break taboos surrounding menstruation, promote hygienic practices, and empower adolescents with essential health and wellbeing knowledge. The interactive discussion encouraged open dialogue and aimed to build confidence and awareness among participants.
Following the awareness session, the students also explored IIT Jammu’s Mechanical Workshop and Innovation Labs, where they were introduced to the fundamentals of engineering design and fabrication. They expressed excitement and curiosity while witnessing practical demonstrations of mechanical and scientific processes.
To further motivate the young visitors, IIT Jammu’s Outreach Department conducted a Career Guidance Session that introduced students to diverse educational opportunities and career pathways available in the fields of science, technology, and engineering. The session aimed to build aspirations among rural school students and help them visualise their potential futures in higher education institutions like IITs.
The event was held under the overall guidance and support of Prof. Manoj Singh Gaur, Director, IIT Jammu; Prof. Meenakshi Rajeev, Dean, Outreach and Skill Development; Dr. Sanchita Shrivastav, PIC, Kritash Club; Dr. Sameer KSP, Associate Dean, Outreach; and Ms. Jeyoti Kaul, Project Associate, Outreach Department. The visit brought together nearly 150 students along with accompanying teachers from PM Shri Government Girls Middle School Jindrah and Kendriya Vidyalaya Jindrah.
Volunteers from the Kritash Club — including Aditya Pratap Singh (Coordinator), along with Prateek, Aryan, Ananya, Anushka, Arun, Pankaj, Madhura, Divyansh, Subrahmanyam, Himanshu, Pratyansh, and Ashwath — played a key role in organising and facilitating the day’s activities, ensuring a meaningful and inspiring experience for all participants.
The visit was conducted under the supervision of Mr. Shamash Din, Incharge, while overall coordination was efficiently managed by Mr. Sadaket Ali, Bindiya Rani, and Babita Kumari from PM Shri Girls Middle School Jindrah. The school administration extended heartfelt gratitude to the faculty and staff of IIT Jammu for their warm hospitality, engaging demonstrations, and educational guidance.
Expressing their reflections, the students described the visit as “eye-opening” and “inspiring.” They showed immense enthusiasm throughout, actively engaging in discussions and expressing a renewed interest in learning and scientific inquiry.
This joint outreach initiative between IIT Jammu and PM Shri Government Girls Middle School Jindrah served as a valuable educational exposure opportunity — nurturing scientific temperament, promoting health awareness, and motivating young minds toward innovation and higher education.
