Poland’s Milik to miss UEFA Euro 2024

Warsaw, June 10 Poland striker Arkadiusz Milik will miss the UEFA Euro 2024 due to an injury, the player announced in an official statement on Monday.

On Friday, Poland defeated Ukraine 3-1 in a friendly game in Warsaw. However, it was a disappointing evening for Milik, who sustained a knee injury and left the pitch just five minutes into the match. As a result, the 30-year-old will not be able to participate in the UEFA Euro 2024.

“I know that injuries are part of sport, but I face a really hard time now. It’s not possible to prepare for something like that. I’m devastated I won’t help my teammates achieve success in the tournament”, Milik wrote in his statement.

Poland’s coach Michal Probierz confirmed that Milik will be sidelined for about a month.

“Arek (Milik) has to undergo a knee arthroscopy. He will have a break of four to six weeks. I feel very sorry for him and I don’t talk about the player, but about the human, who faces difficult moments. He put a lot of energy into preparing for the UEFA Euro 2024,” Probierz said on Monday.

“Milik showed that he was in good shape during training. It’s a pity for us that he will miss the tournament, but that’s what happens in football. I believe in our team as we have really good players,” the coach concluded.

In the group phase of the UEFA Euro 2024, Poland will face the Netherlands, Austria, and France. On Monday evening, they will play a friendly game against Turkey in Warsaw, their last test before the tournament.
