DPAP, PC, AP likely to join hands, talks on
Srinagar, Mar 19: With fissures deepening in the existing political conglomerate in Jammu and Kashmir, a new pre-poll alliance appears to be taking shape in the Union Territory ahead of the Lok Sabha elections scheduled in five phases from April 19.
Sources privy to the developments have revealed that leaders from the Apni Party held a crucial meeting on Sunday, authorizing party president Syed Altaf Bukhari to initiate talks with like-minded parties for a potential alliance.
Apni Party leaders held a meeting at the party headquarters in Srinagar. They discussed the present political situation in J&K and chalked out the party’s poll strategy. The party leaders shared their perspectives and ideas regarding the various aspects of the upcoming elections.
Rafi Ahmad Mir, Apni Party leader stated that no decision has been taken yet, but the leaders have authorized the party president to take a final call in this regard.
Salman Nizami, spokesman of DPAP led by Ghulam Nabi Azad, confirmed that the initial talks for the alliance are going on and no decision has been taken yet. “The like-minded parties including some political activists and parties are in constant touch and have started the initial talks for the alliance,” he said.
He further added that the picture will be cleared soon as the final call in this regard will be taken by Ghulam Nabi Azad.
As some among the parties have already announced their candidates from a few parliamentary constituencies, the parties, if entered into the pre-poll alliance, will be supporting the candidates of allies and will not field their candidates from these constituencies.
Sources said that the decision in this regard is expected to be made public within a week as the talks have been started and are expected to reach a conclusion soon.
