President clears appointments of 5 new SC Judges

New Delhi, June 1: The President of India on Monday approved the appointment of five new judges to the Supreme Court, including Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, Justice Arun Palli.
According to a notification issued by the Government of India, the appointments were made under Article 124(2) of the Constitution and will take effect from the date the judges assume charge of their offices.

Besides Justice Arun Palli, those elevated to the apex court are Justice Sheel Nagu, Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court; Justice Shree Chandrashekhar, Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court; Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva, Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court; and senior advocate Venkita Subramani Mohana.
Justice Palli’s elevation to the Supreme Court marks a significant development for the judiciary in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. He had been serving as the Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh before being recommended for appointment to the country’s highest court.
