SRINAGAR, OCT 5: In a historic visit, President of India Draupadi Murmu is set to embark on her first tour of Jammu and Kashmir, scheduled for October 11.
The highlight of her visit will be her role as the Chief Guest at the 20th Annual Convocation ceremony of Kashmir University (KU).
The University of Kashmir officially announced the event, stating, “In continuation to our earlier Notification dated 30.08.2023, it is notified for the information of all the students who have registered for the Convocation, that the 20th Annual Convocation shall be held on 11th October 2023 in the Convocation Complex, Main Campus, University of Kashmir, Hazratbal, Srinagar. Draupadi Murmu, Hon’ble President of India, will be the Chief Guest and shall deliver the Convocation Address.”
During this prestigious ceremony, students who have registered for Convocation and have been declared qualified for the award of Ph.D., M.Phil., MD/MS, Diploma in Anaesthesiology/Ophthalmology, and Gynaecology will be presented with their degrees.
Security and logistical preparations for President Murmu’s visit are in full swing to ensure a smooth and secure event. Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, is also expected to attend the Convocation.
An official at Kashmir University revealed that following her Convocation address, President Murmu will honor outstanding students from the year 2020 onwards. Over 400 students will receive gold medals and MPhil and PhD degrees during this prestigious event. Preparations for the ceremony have already commenced.
In the evening, there are plans for a special light and sound show by Dal Lake in honor of the President’s visit, adding a touch of grandeur to the occasion. President Murmu will then be hosted by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha at Raj Bhawan Srinagar, marking the conclusion of her historic visit to Jammu and Kashmir.
