Social media misuse for ‘terror activities’: CIK conducts multiple raids in Kashmir

SRINAGAR, OCT 19: In a notable development in the ongoing efforts to combat ‘terrorism’, the Counter-Intelligence Kashmir (CIK) on Thursday conducted a coordinated series of raids at various locations in the Kashmir Valley.

Official sources disclosed that this operation was part of an extensive investigation into a case related to terror activities.

“The CIK, in collaboration with other security agencies, has been actively engaged in the dismantling of terrorist networks and the disruption of potential threats to peace and stability in the Kashmir region,” the officials said.

“These raids coincide with the ongoing vigilance of security forces in Kashmir, focusing on intelligence-driven operations to combat terrorism. CIK’s actions underscore the unwavering commitment of security forces to ensure the safety and security of the region’s residents,” the officials said.

The searches were carried out at five different locations in the districts of Kupwara, Srinagar, Anantnag, and Pulwama.

Officials have indicated that these searches were conducted in accordance with search warrants issued by the Court of the Special Judge designated under the NIA Act, Srinagar, as part of the case FIR No. 07/2023 U/S 153-A, 505, 506 IPC, 13, 18, 18-B, 39 UAPA, registered at the CIK Srinagar Police Station.

“During the searches, incriminating materials, including electronic devices and other items relevant to the investigation, were seized and recovered. The data will be analyzed, and any leads that emerge will serve as the basis for further investigation,” stated an official from the investigating agency.

The case pertains to a “deep conspiracy” orchestrated by terrorist organizations, along with their associates in the Kashmir valley, in collaboration with handlers based across.

These individuals are found to be disseminating criminal content on various social media platforms, content that is not only seditious but also spreads an anti-India narrative with the aim of glorifying or glamorizing terrorists. Furthermore, they are inciting and enticing impressionable youths to take up arms against the sovereignty of India by joining terrorist ranks.

“During the preliminary investigation of this case, it was revealed that some of these individuals/entities were profiling individuals, particularly those who advocate a different and independent stance against secessionists or terrorists, and those who support peace, order, and a violence-free society. These individuals are deemed legitimate targets for vilification and violence”.

These anti-national elements are also found to be profiling genuine government servants working in Kashmir and frequently issuing threats, sometimes openly and sometimes veiled, to harm their person, reputation, or properties, with the intent of obstructing them from performing their lawful duties.

Furthermore, during the course of the preliminary investigation, it was discovered that through these Facebook accounts, associates of terrorist organizations are promoting hostility and discord among different religious and regional groups, provoking youths to engage in large-scale violence and disturbances that disrupt the peace and tranquillity of Kashmir. The official noted that these searches are aimed at dismantling the terror ecosystem in the valley by identifying and exposing individuals who pose a threat to the peace and security of the state and who support or aid terrorism by enticing impressionable youths to join terrorist ranks.
