Srinagar, June 24: The World Craft Council has officially recognized Srinagar as a World Craft City, marking a significant achievement for Jammu & Kashmir’s cultural heritage and craftsmanship. This prestigious accolade has been warmly welcomed by local business organizations and artisans alike.
The Kashmir Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KCCI) expressed immense pleasure and gratitude to the World Craft Council Jury for acknowledging Srinagar’s centuries-old excellence in craftsmanship. The Chamber of Commerce and Industry Kashmir (CCIK) and J&K Hotelier Club (JKHC) also extended their heartfelt congratulations on this historic achievement.
Mushtaq Chaya, Chairman of the J&K Hotelier Club and Chief Patron of CCIK, along with CCIK President Tariq Ghani, praised the skill and dedication of local artisans. They emphasized that this recognition would significantly boost the region’s artisans, business community, and tourism industry.
The accreditation is expected to provide increased opportunities for local artists and craftsmen, fostering economic growth and cultural exchange. It is also anticipated to attract more tourists to experience Srinagar’s rich cultural tapestry.
KCCI Secretary General Faiz Bakshi commended the efforts of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Director of Handicrafts Mehmood Ahmad Shah for their role in reviving and developing Kashmir’s handicrafts. The role of INTACH Chief Salem Beigh in securing Srinagar’s status as a UNESCO Heritage City was also acknowledged.
As Srinagar embraces its new status, both KCCI and CCIK have called upon all citizens to celebrate this achievement and continue supporting local artisans to preserve and promote Kashmir’s rich heritage for future generations.
