Srinagar–Jammu highway closed amid snowfall since Monday evening,  no vehicles stranded on highway: officials

Srinagar, Jan 27: The Srinagar–Jammu National Highway was closed to traffic from Monday evening due to snowfall, officials said.

Traffic authorities said vehicular movement was suspended as a precautionary measure after snowfall intensified in the Banihal sector. An advisory was issued asking commuters not to travel on the highway until further notice.

A traffic official said snowfall has been continuing in the Banihal area, leading to slippery road conditions. He said no vehicle has been reported stranded on the highway so far and the situation remains under control.

Officials said traffic movement will be reviewed and updated as soon as weather conditions improve and road safety is ensured.

Meanwhile, snowfall has been reported across the Kashmir Valley and parts of Jammu region, particularly in the Pir Panjal range and Chenab Valley. Light snowfall was also reported in Srinagar, officials said.

Authorities have advised people to remain cautious and follow official traffic advisories during the prevailing weather conditions. [KNT]
