Traffic Police Rural Kashmir intercept stunt drivers in Bandipora

Bandipora, Jan 12: The Traffic Police Rural Kashmir on Monday traced and intercepted two stunt drivers in Bandipora district, officials said.

The drivers, identified as Junaid Hameed Bhat and Salik Imtiyaz, both residents of Bandipora, were intercepted by a traffic enforcement team under the supervision of Ravinder Pal Singh, SSP Traffic Rural Kashmir, along with Gulzar Ahmad, DySP Traffic Ganderbal Bandipora.

Officials said the vehicles being used for stunt driving were seized under relevant provisions of law. A counselling session was also conducted, during which the drivers were educated about the serious legal consequences of stunt and reckless driving, as well as the negative impact such activities have on students and youth, particularly when videos are shared on social networking platforms.

Traffic officials said special directions have already been issued by the SSP Traffic Rural Kashmir to field officers to intensify enforcement in order to curb rash, negligent and stunt driving across rural areas.

The Traffic Police Rural Kashmir reiterated its appeal to motorists to act responsibly and strictly refrain from handing over vehicles to minors, stunt drivers or persons without a valid driving licence. Officials said such negligence often leads to road accidents and avoidable loss of life.

The department said enforcement drives and awareness measures will continue to ensure road safety and to discourage dangerous driving practices. [KNT]
