Yoodlee Films’ ‘Kaapa’ was the most-streamed Malayalam movie on Netflix during the first half of 2023

The latest list of its most-watched content worldwide between January and June 2023 was released by the streaming platform this month

Mumbai, Dec 16 : Popular streaming platform Netflix has unveiled a list of the 18,220 most-watched content pieces from January to June 2023 globally. Leading the chart is the thriller web series ‘The Night Agent,’ followed by ‘Ginny and Georgia’ and ‘The Glory.’ The comprehensive listing in the Netflix Engagement Report, covering nearly 99% of Netflix’s entire slate, also includes over 600 Indian titles at various ranking positions.

In addition to Hindi, the Indian list also featured some compelling movies in regional languages, indicating the increasing global popularity of such content. Among them, ‘Kaapa ‘ became the most streamed Malayalam movie and occupied the 51st slot among the most-watched Indian content. The movie, produced by Yoodlee Films, the cinema production arm of Saregama, features Prithviraj Sukumaran, Asif Ali, Aparna Balamurali, and Anna Ben in lead roles.
Directed by the veteran Shaji Kailas, the film revolves around real incidents associated with the implementation of the Kerala Anti-Social Activities Prevention (KAAPA) Act in Thiruvananthapuram, the capital city of Kerala. The script, based on writer Indugopan’s novel ‘Shankhumukhi,’ was penned by Jinu Abraham.
The other Malayalam films that secured a place on the list were ‘Minnal Murali,’ ‘Thallumaala,’ ‘Uyare,’ and ‘Kurup.'”
