- Leopard Trapped in Budgam

PAMPORE, August 13: A 50-year-old man was seriously injured after being attacked by a wild bear near Barsoo area of Awantipora in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Thursday.
The injured person has been identified as Ghulam Nabi Bhat, son of Abdul Ahad Bhat, a resident of Dadsara Tral.
Officials told Morning Kashmir Bhat sustained serious injuries in the attack and was shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment. He was later referred to SMHS Hospital, Srinagar, for specialised treatment.
Soon after the incident, a team from the Wildlife Department, Range Khrew Pampore, reached the spot and launched a search operation to trace and trap the black bear.
According to officials, the bear hiding in the paddy fields in Barsoo area. A search and rescue operation has been launched to capture the animal. Officials have urged people to remain cautious and avoid venturing into the area until the bear is safely captured.
Meanwhile, Wildlife Protection Department, Wetlands Division on late Wednesday night captured another leopard from Larkipora area of Budgam district following sustained surveillance and dedicated efforts by its staff.
Following repeated reports of leopard movement in and around the area, the department had already installed trap cages at the identified sites.
Officials informed Morning Kashmir that it was the third leopard captured by the department in the last 5 days in Larkhipora area.
Earlier on Sunday two leopards were captured in a single cage by Wildlife Protection Department, Wetlands in the same area.
Locals of the area appreciated Wildlife Protection Department, Wetlands officials for the timely action.
