About 6000 brave hearts sacrificed, over 1600 from J&K Police alone: DGP

JAMMU, JAN 16: Jammu, January 16: The Director General of Police (DGP), Jammu & Kashmir, R.R. Swain, highlighted the critical connection between narcotics, terrorism, and its financial sustenance during the closing ceremony of the 12th Martyrs’ Memorial Cricket Tournament in Kathua. The DGP commended the organizing committee and sponsors for the successful conduct of the tournament, expressing gratitude to the people of Kathua for their support.
In his address, DGP Swain acknowledged the sacrifices made by over 1600 brave hearts from the J&K Police, emphasizing the force’s commitment to protecting the country’s sovereignty and integrity. He praised the initiative to organize the tournament in the name of martyrs, particularly acknowledging the contribution of martyr Shri Manjeet Singh’s brother.

Speaking about the tournament, the DGP noted the participation of 16 teams, including five from J&K and 11 from other parts of the country. He assured continued support to the families of fallen heroes and emphasized the institutional strength of the J&K Police Pariwar.
Addressing the media, DGP Swain discussed comprehensive welfare schemes for the families of J&K Police martyrs, funded under the Police Contributory Fund. He expressed commitment to escalate the fight against drugs, highlighting the direct link between narcotics, terrorism, and its financial support. The DGP pledged strict action against narcotics dealers and sought the cooperation of parents, families, and the media.
During the ceremony, prizes were distributed to the winners, runners-up, and outstanding players, with Verma Cricket Club Ludhiana emerging as the champions. The tournament, organized by Jammu and Kashmir Police in collaboration with Shaheed Welfare Committee Kathua, serves as a tribute to the sacrifices made by the valiant men of the J&K Police.
DGP Swain and other officers, including DIG JSK Range Shakti Pathak, DC Kathua Rakesh Minhas, and SSP Kathua Shivdeep Singh Jamwal, distributed prizes and mementoes to individuals and businesses that contributed to the successful conduct of the tournament. The event witnessed the presence of a large gathering of cricket lovers and officials.
