Srinagar June 27: The Jammu and Kashmir administration has announced strict new rules for the Amarnath Yatra 2025, which begins on July 3. Due to recent security concerns, solo travel has been banned, and pilgrims will not be allowed to travel by train. All travel must be done by road in official convoys arranged and monitored by the government.
Starting July 1, pilgrims will only be allowed to move in security-protected groups. Inspector General of Police (Traffic) B.S. Tootti said that no individual or unregistered group will be allowed to travel alone.
To monitor the Yatra more effectively, every pilgrim will be given a Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) card. These cards will help authorities track pilgrim movement in real time and respond quickly in case of emergencies. Road Opening Parties (ROPs) will also be deployed to ensure the road remains clear and safe for convoy movement.
Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Ramesh Kumar, said that over five lakh pilgrims are expected this year. “We have set up 106 shelter centres with modern lodging, free food, and medical facilities, ready to accommodate around 50,000 pilgrims,” he added.
Offline registration will start on June 30 at the Bhagwatinagar Base Camp in Jammu. Pilgrims must carry a medical fitness certificate to register. Five special centres have been set up to issue RFID cards after registration.
Importantly, no rail travel will be allowed for Yatra pilgrims this year. All pilgrims must use the road convoy system. Separate rules have also been released for the Budha Amarnath Yatra.
The Yatra will be officially inaugurated on July 2 by the Lieutenant Governor. Pilgrims can choose from three types of darshan and can register online or through select banks.
Officials have requested all pilgrims to follow the rules strictly to ensure a safe and peaceful pilgrimage.
