Authorities intensify inspections to regulate hospitals, clinical establishments in J&K

Srinagar, Aug 29: The government has instructed relevant agencies to conduct thorough inspections of hospitals and clinical establishments across Jammu and Kashmir to ensure they are operating properly and in compliance with regulations.
In the Kashmir Valley, over 50 private hospitals and nursing homes are registered with the Directorate of Health Services Kashmir (DHSK), in addition to hundreds of clinical establishments, including IVF centers.
A senior official confirmed that the government has mandated inspections of all hospitals and clinical establishments in the region. This initiative aims to ensure that private hospitals are held to the same standards as government facilities, with regular inspections to monitor their operations.
“The absence of standardized rates in private hospitals has led to arbitrary charges for patients, and inconsistencies in diagnostic tests conducted by privately run medical labs,” the official explained.
“Additionally, non-local doctors practicing in private hospitals often bypass the mandatory verification process by the Directorate of Health Services Kashmir and the Medical Council of India, neglecting the requirement to obtain counsel registration.”
Following government directives, inspections of various clinical establishments in Kashmir have been carried out. These inspections aim to curb the proliferation of inadequately equipped pathological and microbiological laboratories, as well as clinical establishments lacking proper infrastructure and technical expertise.
“In some IVF centers, deficiencies were identified, and directives were issued to address these shortcomings within weeks, with the warning of sealing the facilities if they fail to comply. To prevent overcharging for diagnostic tests, the rates of various pathologic tests were also verified. We have intensified the inspections across Kashmir,” the official added.
