Srinagar, Oct 18: After a deficit rainfall of 26 per cent in Monsoon season, Jammu and Kashmir has yet again recorded a deficit rainfall of 66 per cent in the ongoing autumn season till October 18.
As per the details collected by the Morning Kashmir, Jammu and Kashmir has received a rainfall of 6.9 mm only during the first 18 days of autumn season against the normal precipitation of 20.2 mm during the period, which amounts to 66 per cent rainfall.
It added that Anantnag district has recorded 99 per cent deficit rainfall followed by 95 per cent in Kulgam district.
As per the details, Kupwara has recorded the lowest deficit with only 16 per cent during the period while the other remaining stations have recorded a deficit rainfall ranging between 70-90 per cent.
Pertinently, in the Monsoon season, Jammu and Kashmir has recorded a deficit rainfall of 26 per cent while South Kashmir districts except Pulwama recorded the deficit rainfall of 50-80 per cent.
Moreover, the deficit rainfall in Jammu and Kashmir has led to the water scarcity in most places across the Union Territory with reports suggesting that the Public Health Engineering (PHE) department (Jal Shakti) Kashmir acknowledging that around 10-15 per cent of the region is experiencing water scarcity, particularly in parts of north Kashmir and Srinagar parts.
Chief Engineer PHE Kashmir, Vivek Kohli, had said some districts; including parts of Sopore and Kupwara, have been hit by the depletion of natural water resources.
