Speaking to Morning Kashmir, Ishtiyaq Ahmad Bhat, Agriculture Extension Officer Pampore, stated that today’s programme was organized by KVK Malangpora in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture Kashmir at Patalbagh village of Pampore. The name of this programme is the Jammu and Kashmir Competitiveness Improvement in Agriculture and Allied Sectors Project (JKCIP), which is a new project launched after HADP. Under this project, every block in Pulwama district is being covered. In this context, today we covered Patalbagh, where we are running the Kissan Sampark Abhiyan.
The main purpose of this initiative is to bring the schemes under the project closer to local farmers and raise their awareness about how they can apply for these schemes and the benefits they can receive, so their farming-related issues can be resolved. The programme covers different aspects, particularly focusing on saffron, which is famous in this region, and where large-scale saffron cultivation is ongoing.
A major part of the programme is about area expansion and saffron-related activities. Under this, an incentive of Rs 28,700 per kanal is being provided. Farmers were informed about how to get their registration done and how they can benefit from this initiative. The target for this year is to cover as many beneficiaries as possible as soon as possible.
