Srinagar, Aug 27: Jammu and Kashmir has once again seen the contest of any leader in the elections while staying in prisoner in a case related to terror financing as the religious, Sarjan Barkati’s family has filed his nomination papers to contest in the upcoming assembly elections from Shopian Zainapora constituency.
Sarjan, who was once known for attracting people with his unique style of raising slogans, is presently languishing in jail for the past one year. His wife was also arrested in a case related to terror financing.
Er Rasheed also took oath after he was given two-hours of bail and is still languishing in jail.
The filing of nominations according to her comes after threadbare discussion with the locals in Reban and other areas.
She has exuded confidence that the people will cast their ballots in her father’s favour and will ensure his victory in the upcoming assembly elections.
Sugra filed the nomination papers on behalf of her father before the Returning Officer.
Pertinently, a total of 15 candidates have filed nomination from 36-Zainapora Assembly Constituency till the last of filing the nomination papers for the first phase of elections, slated on September 18.
Notably, the nomination papers will be scrutinised by the respective Returning Officers on 28 August, 2024, while the candidates can withdraw their nomination paper by or before 30 August, 2024 upto 3:00 pm in the office of Returning Officer. Thereafter, validly nominated candidates will be in the electoral fray.
The three-phased assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir will conclude on October 01 while the counting of votes will take place on October 04.
