Beware of fraudulent billing messages, scammers: PDD to consumers

Srinagar, July 17: Jammu and Kashmir power department has asked the consumers to be aware of the fraudsters who are sending messages asking them to download an app to switch their connections to prepaid mode and in this pretext looting them.

A person will call you and introduce himself as a PDD  representative and inform you to download an app as all the energy meters are prepaid now, after you download the app you will get an OTP and the moment you share that OTP with the person your account will be drained.

And after you report the scam and block the account, you will most probably get another call introducing yourself as an official of Vigilance PDD Jammu and again If you said the fraud. He will ask for your account and ensure that the amount will be credited to the consumer account. Then the scammer will again ask you to download an app telling you you need this to track the deducted amount. So please be careful and share,” said the message of Kashmir Power Development Corporation Limited to its consumers.

A similar message has been shared by the Jammu Power Development Corporation Limited to its electricity users urging them to be cautious and only use the bill sahuliyat app for paying the electricity dues and checking electricity usage.

A senior KPDCL official said that online fraudsters and scammers are on the prowl and are using duping gullible consumers in the context of changing their power meters to prepaid mode.

It is pertinent to mention here that the KPDCL in Kashmir has asked around 59000 consumers to switch their postpaid power connections to prepaid mode. However, there is no formality required to switch connections. A consumer has to pay its outstanding dues and on the smart bill sahuliyat App  he can easily port his connection to prepaid mode.

Cyber Police in Kashmir have time and again reiterated to people to report any incident of online fraud to the police as soon as possible in order to help them nab culprits at the earliest.
