PAMPORE, MAY 09: Leaders and workers of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) staged a protest demonstration in Pampore on Saturday, alleging disrespect towards police martyrs during the inauguration of a developmental project.
The protesters claimed that during the inauguration ceremony, the local MLA allegedly covered the memorial foundation stone bearing the names of police martyrs and installed a new stone over it. They termed the act an insult to the martyrs and their sacrifices.
The demonstrators said the move had deeply hurt public sentiments and amounted to dishonouring the sacrifices of police personnel who laid down their lives for the nation.
“Our martyrs’ sacrifices are above politics and personal publicity. No elected representative has the right to cover or replace a memorial plaque dedicated to martyrs merely for self-promotion. Such an act is highly condemnable and unacceptable,” the BJP leaders stated.
The BJP leadership demanded immediate legal action from the administration and urged authoriities to initiate strict action.
Former President of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Pulwama, Mohammad Lateef Bhat, while speaking to the media, alleged that due respect was not shown to police martyrs during a recent inauguration programme in Pampore.
He said that the Central Government had issued clear directions to honour martyrs by installing memorial stones bearing their names at prominent public places. In accordance with these guidelines, a memorial stone has been installed at the park near Punjab National Bank in Pampore, where the names of police personnel who laid down their lives in the line of duty are inscribed.
However,Lateef Bhat alleged that the MLA of Pampore ignored the sanctity of the martyrs’ memorial and placed a foundation stone for several developmental projects over the existing martyrs’ monument during an inauguration ceremony. He termed the act as disrespectful towards the sacrifices of the police martyrs.
He further demanded that the administration take serious cognizance of the matter and initiate strict action against the MLA and all individuals involved, ensuring that the dignity and honour of the martyrs are preserved at all times.
Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Mohammad Asif Ganaie, while talking to media, expressed concern over the alleged disrespect shown to a martyrs’ memorial during a recent inauguration ceremony in Pampore.
Asif Ganaie stated that the MLA had inaugurated several developmental projects, which he described as a positive step for the constituency. He said that as the elected representative of the area, it is encouraging to see developmental works being initiated for public welfare.
However, he alleged that the foundation stone for these projects was installed at a location that already serves as a martyrs’ memorial, where the names and remembrance markers of police personnel who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty are present. He termed the act inappropriate and said that placing an inauguration stone at such a sensitive site amounts to disrespect towards the fallen martyrs.
The BJP leader urged the administration to take the matter seriously and conduct a thorough inquiry. He demanded strict action against all individuals involved, emphasizing that the dignity and honour of martyrs must be protected and preserved at all times.
