PULWAMA, July 21: A young BSc Mathematics graduate, Mohsin Nazir from Jangalnar village in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district, has emerged as an inspiring role model for educated youth by turning to modern farming and building a successful agricultural enterprise under the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP).
Instead of pursuing a conventional government or private-sector job after completing his graduation, Mohsin chose agriculture as a career. With financial and technical assistance under the HADP scheme, he adopted modern farming practices and established commercial cultivation of watermelons, muskmelons, and other melon varieties, setting an example of innovation and entrepreneurship in the region.
His farming venture has not only become a profitable source of livelihood but has also generated employment opportunities for several local youths. Inspired by his success, many young people in the area are now showing interest in commercial agriculture and exploring farming as a sustainable career option.
Using scientific cultivation techniques and improved agricultural practices, Mohsin has been able to produce high-quality crops on a large scale. His produce has attracted buyers from different parts of the Kashmir Valley, ensuring good market returns and making his venture economically successful. Besides earning a respectable income himself, he is also providing livelihood opportunities to others associated with his farming enterprise.
Sharing his experience, Mohsin said that agriculture offers immense potential for educated youth if they receive proper guidance, access to modern technology, and government support. He urged young graduates to look beyond the limited scope of government employment and consider agriculture and entrepreneurship as viable and rewarding career options.
Officials of the Agriculture Department described Mohsin’s achievement as one of the success stories of the HADP scheme. They said such initiatives are strengthening the rural economy, promoting self-employment, and encouraging educated youth to adopt modern and commercial farming practices.
