Candidates in J&K wait with bated breath for results

Srinagar, June 1: Candidates in Jammu and Kashmir are on edge as the countdown for the vote counting of Lok Sabha seats in Jammu and Kashmir has begun.
After the completion of parliamentary polls in all five constituencies of Jammu and Kashmir, the election authorities are set for the counting of votes on June 4. Political parties are experiencing jitters about the results. While many candidates are devoting their time to prayers, some are on vacation to alleviate election stress.
In the previous Lok Sabha polls, the National Conference (NC) and the BJP each won three parliamentary seats in Jammu and Kashmir.
Similarly, the vote shares of the BJP and Congress had increased.
It will be interesting to see on Tuesday if any political party manages to increase its vote share.
During the 2014 Lok Sabha polls in Jammu and Kashmir, there was a 49.72% voter turnout.
The BJP won two seats in Jammu and one in Ladakh, with a vote share of 32.6%. Ladakh was then part of Jammu and Kashmir state.
The PDP won all three seats in Kashmir with a vote share of 20.7%.
The Congress secured a 23.1% vote share but did not win any seats.
The National Conference had a vote share of 11.2%.
In the 2019 parliamentary polls, 49.3% of people voted in Jammu and Kashmir. The BJP again won two seats in Jammu and one in Ladakh, increasing its vote share to 46.7%.
The NC won all three seats in the Kashmir Valley with a vote share of 7.9%. The Congress achieved a vote share of 28.6%, while the PDP’s vote share fell to 2.4%.
During both the 2014 and 2019 elections, 20 political parties and independents contested, but the main competition was between the NC, BJP, Congress, PDP, and an Independent candidate, Engineer Rashid.
This time, the main contest appears to be between the BJP, Congress, NC, PDP, J&K Apni Party, J&K Peoples Conference, and Er Abdul Rashid.
