Srinagar: Our beloved Kashmir, the Paradise on Earth, is facing an unprecedented challenge. Climate change is no longer a distant threat and it is here, reshaping our snow-capped mountains, rivers, and valleys. Glaciers that have fed the Jhelum and other rivers for centuries are melting at alarming rates. Winters are becoming shorter and warmer, summers harsher, and our traditional weather patterns more unpredictable. This is affecting our agriculture, water security, biodiversity, and the very beauty that defines us.
But we are not helpless. Nature has given us a powerful solution that grows right from our soil: trees.
Climate change is a big problem today. The Earth is getting too warm, says Ramesh Kitchloo
Trees are our natural warriors against climate change. They absorb carbon dioxide, release oxygen, cool the air, prevent soil erosion in our fragile Himalayan slopes, and help regulate rainfall. Every tree we plant today is a gift to our children and to the future of Kashmir.
“Let’s turn tree planting into a shared community tradition,” he added
Kitchloo said small actions by lakhs of us can create a massive green cover that fights global warming while restoring the freshness and purity of our air and water.
“Kashmir has always been known for its resilience and harmony with nature. Let us reclaim that legacy. Let us protect our paradise not just with words, but with our hands in the soil,” he said
Kitchloo added that together, let’s make Kashmir greener, cooler, and more sustainable.
