SHOPIAN, NOV 24 : Under the week-long celebrations of communal harmony week, the Flag Day or Fund Raising Day was today organised by the District Administration Shopian at Mini Secretariat, here in order to contribute towards the welfare of destitute population, affected by violence and to honour the National Flag.
The Flag Day celebrations and donation drive were led by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shopian, Faz Lul Haseeb who hoisted the National Flag at the inauguration of the function.
Students of various schools and staff present on the occasion were sensitized on the rationale behind celebrations of communal harmony and Flag Day.
Speaking on the occasion, the DC highlighted that the aim of the organisation of Flag or Fund Raising Day, is to raise donations for the welfare of destitutes, orphans, widows, specially-abled, old aged, affected by violence and to honour the National Flag, which represents the unity and diversity of the country.
He said, it is our moral responsibility to financially contribute towards the upliftment of victims and help authorities toward the cause.
On the occasion, DC provided financial assistance under the scheme ‘Rehabilitation of Militancy Victims’ sponsored by the Social Welfare Department to various destitute children of the district.
Monthly pensions to hundreds of widows, orphans, old aged and specially-abled are being provided in the district by the Department of Social welfare through RMV Scheme.
National Foundation of Communal Harmony (NFCH) through Project Assist also assists the violence hit students through scholarships.
ADDC, Dr. Nasir Ahmed Lone; ADC, Dr. Zakir Hussain Faaz and other district officers and officials were present.
