Next 5 days unlikely to witness any heat wave
Srinagar, Jun 19: After scorching heat in Kashmir, the Valley on Wednesday witnessed a shift in the prevalent weather conditions as the fresh light rainfall brought an end to the rising mercury here.
However, in late afternoon hours, the light rainfall brought the mercury further down, bringing respite to the people from scorching heat.
The hottest in Kashmir today was Kupwara and Qazigund, the gateway of Kashmir, where the mercury settled at 30.4 degree Celsius while in Kokernag, it settled at 30.1 degrees Celsius.
The lowest was witnessed at Gulmarg, a famous ski-resort where 20.5 degree Celsius was recorded today.
Jammu division however, continued to record above 30 degree Celsius with Jammu station recording a maximum temperature of 43.8 degree Celsius.
Banihal and Batote recorded a maximum temperature of 31.9 degrees Celsius and 32.1 degree Celsius respectively while in Katra, the day temperature settled at 40.7 degrees Celsius.
As per the data, Bhaderwah recorded a maximum temperature of 34.1 degrees Celsius today.
However, Kashmir would unlikely witness heat wave for the next five days as there is the possibility of partly to generally cloudy weather with possibility of light rain, thunder, gusty winds at scattered places of Kashmir division and isolated places of Jammu division till June 21.
Director Meteorological Department, Mukhtar Ahmad has stated that there is a possibility of light rain, thunder at isolated places on June 22 and June 23.
However, on June 24 and June 25, the weather is expected to remain generally dry with the possibility of light rain, thunder at isolated places can’t be ruled out.
He further stated that there is the possibility of heat wave over plains of Jammu during next five days.
