Srinagar, May 29: In a significant step toward curbing inappropriate content online, Advocate Muneer from Kashmir has launched a campaign against the rising trend of vulgar and cringe-worthy content on social media. Alarmed by how such content is becoming normalized, particularly among the youth, Muneer has filed formal complaints with the cyber police, targeting accounts that promote obscenity and indecency online.
Motivated by a recent police action against a social media influencer who made vulgar remarks on a national television show, Muneer decided the time had come to raise his voice.
“I always wanted to take a stand, but seeing the influencer held accountable gave me hope. It showed that the system can work if we act,” he said.
Since initiating his efforts, Muneer has lodged complaints against 10 accounts — all belonging to minors. He expressed grave concern over the age group involved, calling it a disturbing reflection of how deeply the issue has penetrated society.
While talking to Morning Kashmir Muneer said, “All the accounts I reported belong to minors,” he revealed. “This is not just a legal issue — it’s a social crisis. It shows how we’ve failed to protect our younger generation from harmful influences.”
He placed much of the responsibility on parents, urging them to take a more active role in monitoring and guiding their children’s online activities.
“Parents are the first school of children,” Muneer said in a public message. “They must know what their children are doing online. It is their duty to ensure that moral values are taught and upheld at home.”
In response to his complaints and similar reports, the cyber police have taken decisive action — banning nearly 250 social media accounts in just five days for violating content guidelines and promoting vulgarity.
This development has sparked an important conversation in the region about digital responsibility, online behavior, and parental supervision. Community leaders have praised Muneer’s initiative as a courageous and much-needed intervention at a time when digital platforms are having increasing influence on young minds.
Authorities have confirmed that investigations are ongoing and further action will be taken against content creators violating laws meant to protect the moral and psychological well-being of minors.
Advocate Muneer’s campaign has not only shed light on the urgent need to regulate online content but also reminded society of the foundational role of parents in shaping the character and values of the next generation.
