DLSA Srinagar holds awareness programme on Juvenile Justice Act, drug abuse

SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 16: District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Srinagar in collaboration with School Education Department Tuesday conducted an awareness programme on ‘Juvenile Justice Act and Drug Abuse’ at Govt. Boys Hr. Sec. School Jawaharnagar Srinagar.
The programme was held under the chairmanship of Tasleem Arief, Chairman DLSA (Principal District and Sessions Judge) Srinagar, and was conducted under the supervision of Sajad Ur Rehman, Sub-Judge/Secretary, DLSA Srinagar.

Students, Teaching Staff and PLVs of DLSA Srinagar attended the programme.
Session on the Juvenile Justice Act was conducted by Zeenat Nazir, Deputy Legal Aid Defence Counsel Srinagar. Addressing the participants, she defined the role of Child Welfare Committees, District Child Protection Units and Juvenile Justice Boards and other stakeholders.
In her speech she gave a detailed description about the provisions of Juvenile Justice Act 2015 and also discussed the terms and conditions of the Juvenile Justice delivery system, especially for the Children who are in conflict with law. Furthermore, she highlighted the role of DLSA in providing Legal aid to the juveniles.
Asstt. Legal Aid Defence Counsel Srinagar addressed the gathering on drug abuse and sensitized the students about the legal protection available to minors and the harmful impact of substance abuse.
Speaking on the occasion, she said that drug abuse is a great challenge for the society to tackle, as it has engulfed the whole generation. It is need of the hour to have a strict watch on the children, so that they will not indulge in this menace.
